Specification & Methodology

Understanding your results.

A rigorous breakdown of the mathematical equations, market assumptions, and step-by-step calculations powering this tool.

The tool shows the true cost of buying Bitcoin, Ethereum, or stablecoins with euros. It accounts for three hidden costs most price trackers ignore:

  • FX spread - the gap between EUR/USD mid-market rate and what your provider actually uses
  • Deposit fee - what your provider charges to accept your EUR (often zero for SEPA)
  • Conversion margin - the provider's spread on the crypto price itself

The output shows you how much crypto you actually receive after all costs, side by side for each provider, so you can pick the cheapest option.

Common mistake: comparing exchange rates without accounting for the EUR/USD FX spread. A provider may show a good BTC/EUR rate but use a terrible EUR/USD rate for the underlying conversion - our tool catches this.

Operational Guide

How to use this tool.

Step-by-step workflow instructions to get the most accurate calculations for your trading strategy.

Type the amount in EUR. The tool shows the cheapest way to convert that amount into Bitcoin, Ethereum, or stablecoins via SEPA, credit card, and Apple/Google Pay, accounting for deposit fees, conversion spreads, and withdrawal fees.

We compare 12 exchanges across 3 payment methods. The cheapest option is highlighted at the top; the most expensive shows at the bottom. The savings between the two can be anywhere from 0.5% to 4%.

Pro tip: for large EUR purchases (over €1,000), SEPA is almost always cheapest even though it takes 1 - 2 business days. Card purchases add 1.5 - 2.5% interchange fees that show up as a worse price.

Privacy & safety.

This tool pulls live prices from CoinGecko, plus FX reference rates from Frankfurter and the ECB. All calculations happen in your browser - nothing you enter is stored or transmitted.

Fee estimates are based on publicly available schedules and may vary slightly depending on market conditions at the time of your purchase.

Remember: crypto purchases carry market risk. The price can move between when you check the rate and when your transfer settles (especially for SEPA, which takes 1 - 2 business days).

Safety & alternatives.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Don't buy at market without checking the spread. The FX spread can add 1 - 3% to your cost depending on the provider and time of day. Weekend rates are especially bad.
  • SEPA transfers are cheaper but slower. Card purchases settle instantly but cost more in fees. If timing allows, use SEPA and save 0.5 - 1%.

If you prefer to use a bank transfer

Some European banks now offer direct crypto purchases through their apps (e.g., Revolut, N26, Lunar). These are convenient but typically charge wider spreads than dedicated exchanges. Always compare the total cost using this tool before committing.
